Stephen Thom University of Maryland School of Medicine, USA
Dr. Thom is a practicing emergency physician and researcher. He is lead/senior author on over 130 peer reviewed papers and 40 reviews or text chapters on oxygen and other gas toxicities, including carbon monoxide (CO). Investigations in his lab have led to demonstration of immunological aspects to CO-induced neurotoxicity involving both the systemic circulation and biochemical responses in brain. He currently directs projects to assess the involvement of extracellular vesicles in decompression illness, CO and elevated carbon dioxide exposures, and the role of stem cells and microparticles in wound healing.
