Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (ECPR) is gaining attention as a rescue therapy for patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). A model incorporating emergency department, critical care team and cardiology service is crucial to achieve optimal patient outcomes. In this session, the process of developing a 24-hour ECPR program for managing OHCA in a university-affiliated hospital is described. Opportunities, challenges and the keys to successful service are analyzed and discussed.
