1Emergency Department, Korea International Cooperation Agency, Republic of Korea
Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) implemented a bilateral official development assistance (ODA) project, 『Establishment of National Medico-Surgical Emergency Center in Cameroon』, from 2012 to 2014. The product of the ODA project, Centre des Urgences de Yaoundé (CURY), has played a leading role in improving hospital and prehospital emergency care system (ECS) in the country since its inauguration in 2015.
The alliance among the policy maker, academic institutions, and global partners has made comprehensive effort to build a viable ECS addressing its 15 essential components. Strategic participatory planning based on program-based approach with an emphasis on partners’ accountability is the cornerstone of the international cooperation for the sustainable development of ECS in Africa.
