International Paramedicine - How the System Matters!
1Biomedical Sciences, Charles Sturt University, Australia
How does the system of self-regulation within an emergency service differ between countries? How does this then impact upon the day to day working environment for a paramedic on the road? Do paramedics have to follow their guidelines and protocols?
As of December 2018 in Australia, paramedics now work within a self-regulated environment. Registration of individuals within paramedicine will change the way in which they are held responsible for ongoing skills maintenance and education. As similar to nursing, a defined set of skills, code and scope of practice will be described nationally for the profession. So how will the old protocols and guidelines now 'fit' with practice?
This discussion focuses on the changing environment of Paramedicine globally and how national guidelines and self regulation can work together to build and strengthen a robust and mobile workforce.
